运行时输入后就出现该内存不能读

在上面的一段程序中有这么一段：

运行后，先输入password,但是输入后一按回车就出现内存不能读的错误，
但是我稍微改一下把charptr=gets(password)；i=atoi(charptr)改为cin>>i后就没事了，是怎么回事啊，
请大家帮我解释一下
