Beijing Olympics 2008
After losing their bid for the 2000 Olympic Games venue to Sydney, Beijing was finally selected as the host city for 2008 Summer Games by the International Olympic Committee on July 13, 2001. This just proves China is making its mark in the world. In the years leading up to the 2008 Olympic Games, considerable interest will be focused on Beijing. Beijing also known as Peking which means “Northern Capital” lies in the northern end of China. It has served as China’s capital city almost exclusively since 1600s.
I am sure the Olympic committee, the Chinese government and the athletes are all making the preparations for the success of this big event. What about us, students? How can we contribute in our own little ways?
Definitely more and more foreigners will come to China before, during and after the Olympics. Therefore this should give us more reasons and encouragement to learn and appreciate the English language. This is our opportunity to converse with our foreign guests and introduce our very colorful Chinese culture and long history. We should also help to keep our country clean and green. By this means we can also attract more tourists to come and visit our beautiful country. I know we all are so proud of this victory but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. So let’s put all our joint efforts together to make the Beijing Olympics the most successful and memorable one in history of The Olympics Game.
